Study abroad resolution tabled indefinitely

The Senate voted to table a resolution regarding the study abroad lawsuit indefinitely at the SGA meeting last Tuesday, February 19. The resolution, which was proposed by recent graduate Jennifer Bombasaro-Brady '08, whose father is a plaintiff in the suit, was met with fierce criticism from senators and other students in attendance.

Endowment growth seventh out of the Northeast Nine

Wheaton's endowment assets increased by 15.4 percent between 2006 and 2007 according to the most recent annual report on college and university endowment asset changes released by The National Association of College and University Business Officers. Out of the 785 colleges on the list, Wheaton ranked 268 in percentage increase.

Non-violent week to promote leadership A series of events promoting non-violence will take place this week as part of "The Power of Non-Violence," an initiative sponsored by the Office of Service Spirituality and Social Responsibility. The initiative began on February 25 with a lecture titled "Islam, Non-Violence, and Political Change" by Rabia Terri Harris, founder and chair of the Muslim Peace Fellowship.

Groden Center to honor Dean Sue Alexander for two decades of work

Dean Sue Alexander will be honored with the Community Award at the Groden Network's 32nd Annual Awards Dinner on March 28 in Providence for her work at the Groden Center during the past two decades. The mission of The Groden Center's day program, as stated on its website, is to "enhance the lives of children and youth with autism, behavioral disorders, and developmental disabilities, and their families.

SGA passes partial Mars resolution

The Student Government Association passed part of a resolution on February 19 in support of the Mars initiative, which is headed by Caleb Goodhouse '08 and handful of other students. The resolution established the SGA's official support of the Mars initiative and urged President Ronald Crutcher and the administration "to engage a dialogue with the Mars family" about adopting a fair trade policy.

FYS?brings children with autism to the Big Event

The Big Event carnival opened two hours early for local children with autism on Saturday, February 16. The event was put on by the students from Professor Grace Baron's First Year Seminar, "Visualizing Autism," with help from Wheaton Athletic Mentors and the residents of the Keefe Suite "Awareness for Autism.

Campus wireless expanded to include Watson, Pappas

Wireless access expanded on campus this month with Watson concourse and Pappas Fitness Center the most recent additions to the network. Since the beginning of February, the newest wireless areas include the area on the second floor of Watson concourse dominated by comfortable chairs and a view of Mars/Meneely.

Week in Review - February 18 - February 24

The U.S. Navy shot down an inoperable spy satellite on Wednesday, successfully preventing it from reaching Earth. Cuban President Fidel Castro announced his resignation on Tuesday. He cited his wish to pursue "ideas" as a main reason for stepping down. The Turkish Parliament passed an amendment to lift the ban on headscarves in universities on Friday.
