Too much to write about

Sometimes I contemplate expanding the Wire to be more than 12 pages. There's just so much going on around campus that we can't possibly cover it all. However, there are other weeks when nothing happens and we have to fight to make a full issue. For these and other reasons, the Wire has been 12 pages for quite some time.

New meaning to term 'cheap date'

There are whole bushels of students here at Wheaton that are majoring or planning to major in women's studies. I am friends with a few of them, and it brings me great pleasure to make sexist jokes in their presence. This is, of course, all in good fun, and there are plenty of anti-men jokes that get thrown back at me on a daily basis ("Seventy five reasons a cucumber is better than a man," anyone?).

SAA makes big plans for new year

Do you wear your Blue Crew t-shirt with pride? Did you write notes to last year's seniors for them to read before Commencement? Did you know that the Student Alumnae/i Association was behind these things, as well as many other events and activities? If you answered no that's okay.

According to an email digest students received on October 21, Chris Hoyler '09 will hold an "official" film screening of a Flaming Lips DVD on the 27th in Knapton Lecture. He is doing so to promote Warner Brothers Records, which he labels a "sponser" of the event.

Change demanded in gay rights

With elections less than a week away, state and local governments will be dealing with various ballot propositions dealing with a whole host of issues, from increasing taxes to rezoning certain neighborhoods. As is the case every election year, some towns or states will inevitably put something relating to gay rights on the ballot.

Polls suggest slim hopes for McCain

With less than one week to go in the General Election campaign, the intensity has grown to a new level. Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate, is still ahead of the polls across the board in many key states: Ohio, Missouri, Nevada, Colorado and Florida.
