In a span of less than a week, Babson twice delivered devastating blows to the Wheaton baseball team. On April 24 they prevented Wheaton from clinching the NEWMAC regular season title. And then this past Saturday the Beavers eliminated Wheaton in the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals 8-7.
The men's lacrosse team has turned things around this season and as they enter into the playoffs, one must take notice of the quality play of goalie Schuyler Horn '10. Horn has helped lead his team into second place in the Pilgrim League. The Lyons are 6-6 overall, but 6-1 in league play.
With the NFL Draft having just finished, the NBA and NHL playoffs in full swing, and the first Red Sox-Yankees series under our belts, there is plenty to talk about in the sporting world. That said, I'd like to begin by addressing two departures. The first of these is, sadly (or perhaps not so sadly if you're my boss), my own from The Wire.
For the young men of the Wheaton College men's tennis team, the 2009 season has been quite an interesting one. Finishing third in the NEWMAC and owning a solid record of 10-6, the Lyons came close to realizing their dream of knocking off the newly-crowned, 11-time and defending NEWMAC Champion MIT Engineers.
