Student committee rallies for divestment from Sudan

Protesters have demanded that the United Nations and great powers, such as the U.S., U.K., and France, send troops into the region for peacekeeping purposes.
Here at Wheaton, three women have taken it upon themselves to get the attention of the administration and student body focused on the Darfur crisis.
Juniors Giuliana Brogna, Amy Johnson and Coco O'Connor head the Wheaton College Divestment From Sudan Committee. They have declared this week and next "Darfur Weeks," hosting movies and speakers, among other events, to educate the campus about Darfur.
Their ultimate goal is to convince the Board of Trustees to divest from companies who support or are heavily invested in the Sudanese government or economy, particularly though oil.
Among other events, tonight the College Conservatives will host a 7 p.m. discussion on whether the U.S. should intervene.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, Amnesty International will host a "mini-writeathon" to send letters in support of action. A draft resolution will be presented to S.G.A. for voting at next Tuesday's meeting.
On Dec. 7, the film All About Darfur will be shown at 7p.m. in Hindle.
