In collaboration with a number of corporate and local sponsors, such as Vitamin Water and Koster Insurance, the WAMs put on such spectacles and events such as illusionist Jason Michaels, an open mic night in Chase Round, and a carnival in Haas Athletic Center. T-Shirts, bracelets, and other Wheaton and Big Event merchandise were sold at the events. Proceeds made will be given to The Hole in The Wall Gang Camp.
"The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is a non-profit organization that serves as a safe haven for children with terminal illnesses," describes Renata Paglio, President and Co-Organizer of this year's Big Event "It's a place where kids can be kids and not have to worry about their sickness."
According to Zachariah Hicks, who had an equal part in hosting and organizing the Big Event, this year's turnout was the highest of any year the event has been hosted.
"This has pretty much been then most successful Big Event yet," said Hicks. "There have been so many more people going to the events than in years past."
Many students made comments regarding how they enjoyed the activities of the Big Event. "The illusionist was mesmerizing," said Jon Schwartz '10. "I hope they have him back next year." Many others commented on the carnival, which had such activities and games such as sumo-wrestling, Laser Tag, a mechanical bull, dodgeball, and others.
Another successful outcome of the event is that there was not a single documented alcohol violation on campus for the duration of the weekend. In addition, over $1200 was raised for The Hole in The Wall Gang Camp, which surpassed the WAMs' goal for the event.
"I'm very pleased with the outcome of this year's event," said Paglio. "It gives us something bigger to shoot for next year."
