Lo and behold, Target has decided to expand its operation to nearby Easton. A new Target is currently being built across the street from a separate shopping plaza which includes TJ Maxx, Hannaford Supermarket, and a small variety of other stores.
Target, which sells everything from clothing to electronics, has become a success with its blend of contemporary quintessence and affordable merchandise. There are currently more than 1,494 Target stores in over 47 states nationwide.
"The new addition of a Target, in close vicinity to TJ Maxx and Hannafords offer consumers a trifecta of shopping bliss," said Cory Kraft '09. "I'm really excited."
With the addition of the new store in Easton, Target will have six stores within a 20-mile radius of Wheaton College. Nearby branches can be found in Taunton, Plainville, North Attleboro, and Seekonk, as well as in Lincoln and Smithfield, Rhode Island.
While Target offers "a tempting array of hot items and savings every week," according to their Web site, some students in the Wheaton community are wary of the corporation's influence. "I just don't feel good about Target's expansion plans - I find the new store really threatening. It's a sensitive topic," said Parker Tichko '10.
The new Target is scheduled to open in early summer, providing construction stays on schedule, and will offer "high-quality, stylishly designed items plus all the essentials, displayed in a clean, organized and welcoming environment," according to its Web site.
