As the 2007-2008 elections gear up, two juniors have emerged as the front-runners in the presidential race. Mike Zwolinski '08 and Max Cohen '08, both spending the year abroad, have different visions of how the needs of the student body can be met under their leadership.

Cohen said he intends to bring "about a new way of student-administration interaction," which he expects will allow students to better recognize their opportunities on campus. He believes that "something needs to change in terms of how the student government and thus the student body interacts with the administration."

By improving the relations between the student body and the administration, Cohen hopes to better challenge the administration in improving student needs.

Despite this, Cohen recognizes that he has significant disadvantages that he must overcome in order to win.

"I would consider it one of my greatest weaknesses, along with running from abroad, that I have not served in SGA during my career at Wheaton," he told The Wire.

But, he added, "I think once people see the ideas and initiatives I want to pursue, the concerns surrounding my lack of participation in SGA will fade."

Cohen will be giving his speech in the Loft, live via webcam.

Zwolinski, having "extensive experience within SGA," believes that he already has the ability to build a fruitful SGA-administration relationship and instead plans to address issues within the campus community: housing and affordability.

"The student body should expect an improved and cohesive community, a housing process that works for student needs, and greater accountability and affordability for our Wheaton education," Zwolinski told The Wire.

Zwolinski, who is running on a ticket with vice presidential canddate Georgina Cannan '09, said he intends to improve the campus community by rewarding the hardworking student body, fixing the housing crunch by helping to better manage the resources Student Life has to offer, and improving affordability by assuring accountability from the administration and pushing for textbooks on reserve, as well as continuing Project Scholarship.

Zwolinski, on spring break from Oxford, has already begun campaigning on campus.
