Three candidates are competing to become next year's SGA treasurer: Leo Gayne '10, Austin Llewellyn '08, and Taavi Raidma '08.
Both Gayne and Raidma currently serve on the Treasurer's Advisory Council, Gayne as secretary and Raidma as communications director.
Despite being a rising sophomore, Gayne stressed his experience, pointing to work on various SGA committees over the past year. He presented a three-part platform: reforming the club allocation and auditing process, increasing investment in diversity, and improving communication.
"It is essential that the treasurer and club leaders have a good communication style," Gayne said.
Raidma, a native of Estonia, described his experience working in finance, including a stint with a major European bank and his work as secretary of the Wheaton Investment Association.
Raidma, who will also serve as SGA webmaster next year, said his major policy proposal is to create an Internet-based club budgeting and auditing system.
Llewellyn, who is currently abroad, did not send a representative to speak for him.
SGA President JR Wallace '07 stressed the importance of the position while introducing the candidates before their speeches at The Loft on Mar. 28. "I've often said ... if we don't have a good treasurer, everyone hates SGA," he remarked.
