It has been roughly four months since our boys of summer, Wheaton's baseball team, have played. The last four games ended in Harwich, MA, which many students were unable to see because school had ended.

These last games were the most important of the year. Wheaton was vying for the NCAA Division Three tournament title. The Lyons split the four games of the tournament and, sadly, went home without making it to the championship. Keene State was the downfall of the team, defeating Wheaton twice.

One major highlight of the tournament was Wheaton's 7-6 victory over Curry College. This was a sixteen inning marathon in which the Lyons struck out a total of nineteen batters. This game tied a NCAA Tournament record. Pitcher Joshua Simmons '09 recorded the win and Scott Guillerault '08 hit the game winning RBI single.

Looking back on the season, it was very successful. The team is now ranked eleventh in the NCAA Division III Baseball poll. The Lyon's record was 34-13, good enough for second place in the New England region, behind Eastern Connecticut State (38-12).

Simmons stated, "It was a very productive season, but anything less than making it to Nationals again would be a disappointment."

Hopefully this year the 17 new freshmen will be enough for the Lyon's to capture a title.
