Wheaton will once again host its flu clinic this year, making flu shots easily available to everyone. It will be held November 8 in Balfour-Hood from 11am-5pm. Sing-ups for the shot started on Friday, November 2 on Wellness Day, and will continue throughout the week. Times will be announced as they become available.
The vaccine costs $25, and insurance will not cover the shot because it comes through a private clinic. No walk-ins will be allowed, and there will be no refunds for no-shows.
A 2006 Student Health Survey found that 34% of Wheaton students cited colds and flu-like symptoms as the second most prevalent problem that affects performance, both mentally and physically; the top impediment was stress.
To cut down on the transmission of illness causing germs, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing hands, covering the mouth while sneezing or coughing and getting an annual flu shot. The CDC stresses that getting a flu shot is the most effective way to avoid getting the flu.
