On November 2, the senate met to discuss goals for the upcoming semester. The intent of the discussion was to find five deliverable goals the senate could give to the student body by the end of the academic year.

"We all pay an exorbitant amount of money so we all need an exorbitant amount of stuff thrown at us," explained Eli Lovely '10 Educational Council Chair. "Even if it's small, minute things they still mean something to the students."

With the rising costs of tuition the SGA is looking to give students a throwback for the amount of money that is put into the school.

"Costs aren't going to go down," Senator Gabe Amo '10 further articulated. "Rather than worry about what we can't control, let's worry about what we can."

Many of the options discussed included establishing a better Graduate School mentoring program, offering more information and support on financial aid and money, revamping the Balfour Café furniture, improving club field space, and making the campus more handicap accessible.

The senate plans to formulate a list of five of these possible options to send to all of the major administrative offices on campus.

Another major issue that was discussed was the goal of improving campus community. Some Senators did not approve of the SGA having a goal of improving campus community as holding the administration accountable for raising tuition can be considered a much more pressing issue.

Senior Representative to the Board of Trustees Corinna McFarland '08 explained that making people feel more involved through out the campus community helps to raise money for the college because those who feel most connected to the community are more likely to donate once they become alums.

However, Senator Laura Gallant '08 and Lovely were still skeptical of having campus community as a goal.

The senate will resume discussion of campus deliverables and SGA goals on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00 pm in the SGA office.
