All four classes collaborated to create a s'more event celebrating luminaria on Sunday, December 2. The class of 2010 originally created the event with help from Dean of Students Sue Alexander, but this year the student councils decided to work together to provide the campus with s'mores and fun.

The event was located between the Dimple, the library and Balfour, a position that attracted many passersbys. Luminaries were set up all around campus, along the sides of the walkways to light up the winter night. According to Christine Panzarella '10, about 50-75 people stopped by to roast a marshmallow in the three-hour span. The marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate bars that the student council provided were more than enough to feed those who wanted to make s'mores.

The coordinators of the event were surprised, although not deterred, when it began to snow on Sunday evening. According to Panzarella, the participants of the event enjoyed the vista of snow. "The event was great and a lot of fun. The ambiance of Luminaria was a great back drop for people to enjoy the sweet treats while looking at the snow fall on what was a beautiful winter night."

Although students typically feel overly stressed around this time of the year, the small celebration provided students with a winter-wonderland oasis in which they were able to escape from the thoughts of finals. According to Dana Schwendner '11, the s'mores event encapsulated the feel of the holidays. "A couple people sang Christmas carols around the fire," she said. "It was a nice break from studying for finals and all the stress that comes with that. Being a freshman, it's easy to feel overwhelmed quickly, and small events like this can really pick you up when you're down."
