Trybe members bust a move at one of their last rehearsals before the Gala.

After a year of hard work, Trybe dance troupe is finally in the last stages of preparation for their annual main event: the Trybe Gala. The diverse repertoire of pieces that have been primed for the event will finally make their way to the stage this weekend in a series of three performances.

The dancers have been practicing twenty-three hours a week since the beginning of last semester, and have assembled twenty-one intricately choreographed numbers to be performed.

Team captains Emily Muller '08, and Sayaka Suzaki '08, are proud of the hard work and dedication displayed by their dancers, especially the newest faces.

According to Muller, these enthusiastic newcomers "have just thrown themselves into preparing for the Gala." Even at rehearsal, all of the Trybe members exude confidence and a sense of eagerness to give every ounce of energy to their dances.

The two-hour Gala, this year themed "Fusion," will be held in Weber Theater, showcasing 11 numbers in the first act and ten in the second.

There will be two guest performances by Wheaton's step team, SOLE, and by Scottish highland dancer Elizabeth Bland '08.

According to Muller, "Trybe was often helped out in the beginning when they weren't as well known," and in return "they [now] try to help out other dance groups on campus."

Trybe's Fusion Gala is certain to be one of the most extraordinary affairs on campus this year.

The event will take place Thursday, February 21 through Saturday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Weber Theater.

Tickets are free, but tend to sell out quickly. Reserve your spot by calling the Wheaton Box Office at 506-286-3365.
