Last semester, while Wheaton students were readjusting to life back in the bubble after a long, relaxing summer; New York, Paris, and Milan were already gearing up for spring 2008. The fashion capitals rolled out the red carpet and watched as models strutted down the catwalk, revealing the latest styles for this spring: the trends we will be shopping for this coming March. When you hit the shops, watch out these top 10 trends:
• Floral - Not just a pocket full of posies this season. Designers went for the whole garden in all-over botanical prints.
• Transparency - Sheer fabrics are a little tricky to pull off in the real world. But a clear bag is a fun, less revealing way to get the risqué look.
• Eco-Friendly designs that Al Gore would approve. The "green" movement is all encompassing. Organic and sustainable materials are not only trendy, they are good for the environment.
• Ladylike Menswear - From the girlie version of the neck tie to Oxford booties, designers took a nod from the Old Boys Club with a feminine twist.
• Ethnic touches - Think safari chic, beading, tribal-inspired pieces, colorful ikat fabrics in the shape of modern dresses, and graphic-print tunics.
• Heavy Metal - Although metallics are pretty much a fashion staple now, this spring's metallics are more burnished luxe than high-shine tin foil.
• Black and White Prints - Always eternally classic, the combo has made a huge comeback offering more options than ever.
• Technicolor Brights - Break out your sunglasses and get ready for pieces in shockingly vibrant hues of pink, yellow and green.
• Lingerie Detailing -Romantic and feminine, these pieces borrow from the boudoir. Be careful not to go too far and channel Blonde Ambition era Madonna.
• Dip-dye - called "ombre" by the fashion-forward crowd. Whether you call it tie-dye or gradient, the idea is the same: colors that fade from light to dark are hot this season.
