The Center for Global Education is still looking for a new dean, a position that has been open since the summer. Review of the applications began March 1, and an expedited process should allow for on-campus interviews of finalists as soon as possible. The search committee will consist of Associate Provost Dr. Hyun Kim, Interim Dean of the Center of Global Education Mark Hoesly and two faculty members and one student representative, yet to be announced.
The search began this past summer when Director of the Center for Global Education Sue Atkins left. During the fall semester, the search committee reviewed over 100 applications, and finalists were brought to campus for interviews in February.
A recommendation was made to Provost Molly Easo-Smith, but the nominee declined, citing personal and family reasons. The job was then upgraded from Director of Global Education to Dean, and a new job description was posted on Wheaton's website.
Hoesly was hired as Dean of Advising and Co-curricular Learning in July and was named Interim Dean of the Center of Global Education last semester. Before coming the Wheaton, he worked for seven years as the Associate Provost of Washington College where he oversaw the Office of International Programs.
"Wheaton students are tremendously fortunate to have a very qualified and professional staff and outstanding global education programs," Hoesly said. "I hear stories from students about the transformative experiences that they have had while studying abroad and the quality of Wheaton's programs for our international students on campus."
Kim noted that the college and the Center for Global Education remain "fully committed to global and international education, which we see as a critical and invaluable part of our students' undergraduate experience."
