Sex and the Dimple: M.I.A.: Sexuality
Romel Antoine '09
Issue date: 3/26/08 Section: Features
When I got to Wheaton, all I remember seeing, hearing, and doing was sex (and boy did I have fun engaging in the latter). Over the last year I've noticed that the campus' sexuality has disappeared, gone into the abyss of things that aren't seen and rarely talked about.
When I was a frosh I would go into the dining hall and hear someone talking about their latest sex-capade, the ins and outs and when they were going to do it again. This kind of sexual banter is almost non-existent anymore.
I'm not saying that the campus was sluttier, I'm just saying that people seemed to enjoy their sex more and were more willing to let us know it. Gone are the days when I could walk down any hallway on a given night and hear two people going at it, oh the tragedy.
All of my friends keep telling me how hopeless it is to find someone to have sex with on campus and that they've given up. Some of them have resorted to becoming 'born-again' virgins; some have embraced the 'coin-operated boys' of our time, while others just continue to have sex in silence.
Where has our sexuality gone? We're at a school where it's hard to be yourself. If you don't fit into a prescribed category then you're not in with the 'crowd.'
Wheaton has really muted my sexuality. We need to come together and embrace our sexuality or else it's going to die
Sexuality is personal. Sexuality is liberating. Sexuality is fun. If you like loud sex, have loud sex. If you can't enjoy the sex that you want to have then why are you having sex in the first place?

I have no theories on why this is happening. Are people too concerned about the presidential election and the war in Iraq.
