The results for the SGA elections with the highest voter turnout in recent history were announced at midnight on Wednesday, April 9 at the midnight brunch in Emerson dining hall. In total 806 students participated with 260 participating from the class of 2011, 229 from the class of 2010, 161 from the class of 2009, and 156 from the class of 2008.

Current SGA President Mike Zwolinski said the election turnout was "considerably higher" than normal. "I think the reason is that this was a really interesting race," he said. "[SGA] tried to hit hard with advertising."

Austin Simko '09 and Leo Gayne '10 will serve as SGA President and Vice President respectively for the upcoming academic year. Simko said winning the election was "very surreal." He explained that he felt he "ran an innovative campaign that sucked a lot of people in, but the margin was only 19."

His running mate Gayne looks forward to next year serving as the Vice President. "It's going to be great. [Austin and I have] been working very well together… I was telling Claudia Bell that we get one day off and then we're back to work."

In the much-contested SGA Presidential race Georgina Cannan '09 came in third place with 146 votes, Gabe Amo '10 came in second with 370, and with only 19 more votes Austin Simko '09 won the presidency with 389 votes.

In the vice presidential election Nate Mauer '09 received 194 votes for second place and Leo Gayne '10 received 546 votes for the win.

For the position of SGA secretary, Jess Coons '11 won with 268 votes. The two other SGA secretary candidates, Lindsey Nielsen '11 and Emily Firment '11 earned 243 and 190 votes respectively.

"Being a freshman, well, we were all freshmen, but I think places at a disadvantage because the rest of the campus [non-underclassmen] doesn't know me. I tried to get my name out there," said Coons about running her campaign. She told the Wire that she isreally excited about wining the election and that she feels the upcoming year will be great.
