The goal of the event, according to SHAC President David Lopes '10 was "to reduce the stigma around sexuality issues," and bring awareness to the health aspect of sexual activity. "We want to educate the campus community and encourage people to be open about their sex lives," said SHAC treasurer Chelsey Taylor '09. "Also, we want to have fun."
Tickets for the event cost $2 if purchased ahead of time or $3 at the door. The money will be donated to help fund health education programs in Tanzania. Condoms, dental dams and information packets were handed out at the door free of charge.
The event was held in Hindle Auditorium with about 160 people in attendance. It was hosted by Goddess Corinne. Corinne, a saleswoman from Athena's Home Novelties, brought toys, tools and accessories for various sexual activities. These included everything from body creams and lotions to massage devices and items with more explicitly sexual purposes.
Athena's Home Novelties is part of the adult novelty party industry. It has "over 650 active Goddesses [sales women] operating in 23 states across the country," according to its Web site.
Kelly Westphal '10 called the party "classy" and compared it to a sex toy version of a Tupperware Party.
Corinne demonstrated various products on members from the audience in order to let people "get to see, taste, touch and feel" the things she was selling. Categories of products included "Latest Buzz," "Toys for Boys," "The Body Eaters," and "Cuffs and Stuff" to name a few.
At one point, several volunteers from the audience were tied up, had paper bags placed over their heads or left the room to be able to fully test certain products. "I loved it," said Sophie Wood '10 about the event. "It was informative but it was also a lot of fun."
"They say the safest sex you can have is abstinence," Corinne said at one point. "I say the safest sex you can have is with yourself."

Of course! The party in a sex toys party is simply to get everyone to relax and have some fun with a subject that is often swept under the carpet. Sexual health and enjoyment should be a fundamental human right, and having these parties you write about is a perfect way to increase communication and get people to learn and share more about personal health and satisfaction, something we could all use more of!
