Home for the holidays

Most people can't wait for vacation because they can't wait to go home. Not only do they want to see their family, but they want to see friends, sleep in their own bed, eat home cooked meals, etc.
Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday of the year, but not necessarily for the reasons I just listed. Quite honestly, I just really love the food. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and my favorite, pumpkin pie.
I'm all for a few days off of classes and work, and I definitely appreciate seeing my family. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's because I've been at college for three and a half years already, but I feel as though coming home just isn't that exciting anymore. I've made a life for myself outside of my home, as my own person, and going back just makes me revisit everything I used to be. Granted, it's always good to remember your past, but as I prepare for graduation, I'd like to look forward and see what life has ahead for me, not what I left behind.
Maybe it's just that my town is really small and there's nothing to do so I'm bored every time I come home. I'm not ruling that out. I wonder how many other seniors feel the same way I do, or how many still get excited to go home, even if only for a few days. Perhaps once I'm in the?"real world" and barely making enough money to pay rent and eat, I'll appreciate home more. We'll see.
