While issues of sustainability, Wheaton's budget crunch and student affordability are all scintillating subjects of this month's SGA presidential election, the larger question of who really are your SGA presidential candidates? might be more interesting to the average Wheatie, just in case those three topics don't hit the spot.
Candidates Hilary Emerson '10, Gabe Amo '10 and Leo Gayne '10 all agree that a personal touch is needed throughout the process.
Emerson, who is currently abroad in Florence, plans on campaigning through Facebook, Skype and YouTube. "I have a network of friends and supporters back on campus who will be heading the campaign back on the home front," said Emerson. However, unlike Amo and Gayne, she will be running solo on her ticket. Emerson will deliver her speech by way of Skype or video system on April 1.
Aside from her SGA aspirations, Emerson feels that her semester abroad as provided her with unparalleled experiences. The Aquarius (she was born on Valentine's Day) has been taking cooking classes while abroad as well as traveling around Italy and Europe, and of course perfecting her Italian. However she still considers Ogunquit, Me. to be one of her favorite places. "I have been going there once every summer with my grandfather since I was young."
In the future she hopes to pursue a career in international law. "I picture myself as either a worker for a grass roots organization or as an international lawyer or mediator. I have always had a deep interest in public service and have been dedicated to helping people."
In her spare time, Emerson participates in Wheaton musicals, plays board games such as Cranium, and doing Sean Connery impersonations. "I also tend to randomly break out in song…and I don't like chocolate," she admits.
Back stateside, Amo says, "I'm fluent in Ebonics and conversational in Spanish." The registered Democrat and Sagittarius from Rhode Island whose favorite color is navy blue, says, "My style is adaptable and comfortable. Matching is very important," he says. The junior indulges in favorite brands such as Ralph Lauren and Banana Republic.
