The Wheaton Times and The Bubble Magazine, two online publications that began this year, join the various outlets on campus where students can voice their opinions and publish their creative work as well as keep up with current campus news. Other publications include the Wesendonk, Rushlight Magazine, and The Wheaton Wire.

The Bubble, an online blog for Wheaton students, is a site for open campus dialogues. The advantage to being an online publication, according to the Web site, is that they can explore different types of communications, such as videos and music.

The Bubble's Editor-in-Chief, Richard Lopez '10, said that, "The purpose of this magazine [The Bubble] is to spark dialogue, strengthen community and bring educational conversations outside of the classroom and into the public domain.

Blogs are simple multimedia platforms that allow for ongoing communication and dialogue with people in your community."

The Wheaton Times is an online publication that offers news stories written by students as well as poetry and other forms of creative arts.

They feature sections such as the Athletics Arena, Campus Cognizance, Global Affairs, and The Cow Duck: Campus Gossip. The Times accepts stories as they come in and publish them on their Web site.

The publication's web site reads, "The Times promotes responsible journalism hinged on accuracy. The Times has writers dedicated to bringing you the most engrossing and cutting edge stories which our community and the world around it has to offer."

Because The Times is student driven, founder and Editor-in-Chief Elspeth Lodge '10 provides students with an outlet to come to her with ideas.

"Rather than assigning stories, I will help each writer, if they desire, find a topic that inspires them to do interesting research… Additionally we offer our writers the option to write political or world event-related poetry. However, we do not accept creative writing pieces that have nothing to do with the news," said Lodge.

Staying up-to-date on issues by reading multiple news sources is one of the biggest things Lodge stresses to her writers.

She said, "I encourage my writers to pick up a variety of papers every morning, so that they can get used to different types of writing (if they aren't already): features, news, etc. I personally read The New York Times, The Boston Globe and The Philadelphia Enquirer every morning."

The Wheaton Times also has a new section, Lyons Roam 360, which, as described on their Web site is, "a forum dedicated to Wheaton Students abroad. [Contributors] will write letters, Facebook messages and e-mails, which will act to inform the Wheaton community of their cultural experiences outside the Bubble."

If a student is a lover of creative writing, a news junkie, a political science major, or has an interest in film, music, or art, all of these publications offer an outlet for dialogue and community involvement.
